الملخص
Translating literature is an issue that has both positive and negative outcomes, the positive is exhibited in introducing national literature to the world and allowing the reader to have an access to other national literature. The negative outcome is related to several arguments that claim the untranslatability of certain literary elements, therefore the literary experience of reading a literary work differ among international readers as a result of jeopardizing the original work's thoughts and style. However, reading literary works requires an understanding and an interpretation in order to enjoy. This paper argues that the international reader, a reader who read literature through translation, have a very different aesthetic experience that we could call incomplete or misguided. In attempt to demonstrate that, this article aims to highlight some problematic aspects in Reception Theory, using Jauss' model as a main focus on this paper, specifically when dealing with literature in translation. Translations from, or to, Arabic are presented for the purpose of this study.
